Crowley was trying to do his job, and very well might have overstepped the bounds of the law and arrested someone for "contempt of cop", but that is very different from being racist.
Racism does exist, and it was most definitely the pretext for Gates's overreaction to an officer confronting him is his own home, but we need to stop seeing racism where it isn't and focus on defeating it where it is.
Otherwise I agree with what you wrote.
