FROM BRANDEIS U TO THE

FROM BRANDEIS U TO THE FU: The near-impossible has happened, as Chris Ford, who this time last year was head basketball coach at my alma mater Brandeis University, has been named coach of the Philadelphia 76ers after the NBA team fired Randy Ayers today.
Ford, who once coached Larry Bird with the Celtics, took the Brandeis job in 2001, and I was virtually certain at the time that choosing to take over the basketball "program" of such a notably non-jock school would preclude Ford from ever coaching in the NBA again.
Don't ever I say I don't admit it when I'm wrong. But then again, after a month or two of dealing with Allen Iverson, Ford may start to long for the days of coaching Moshe and Schmuel.
