GOOD NEWS FROM STARKVILLE: Packers

GOOD NEWS FROM STARKVILLE: Packers assistant Sylvester Croom was hired Monday as the new football coach as Mississippi State, thus becoming the first-ever black gridiron coach in the Southeastern Conference. This is huge news, somewhat akin to the University of Kentucky, coached for years by white supremecist Adolph Rupp, hiring Tubby Smith as their coach a few years ago.
Croom replaces the retiring Jackie Sherrill, who in 1991 had a steer castrated in front of the team the week they were to play the Texas Longhorns.
