HERE COMES THE STORY OF

HERE COMES THE STORY OF THE HURRICANE: Hurricane Isabel, which due to work I knew about two weeks ago, is scheduled to reach the Northeastern United States as soon as Friday. As if terrorism and blackouts weren't enough, now it's time for another calamity- one that I hope doesn't prevent my planned weekend trip to Philadelphia.
The process of naming hurricanes is goofy enough as it is, but one funny thing about Isabel is that as a six-letter word that starts with "Is" and ends with "el," I keep mis-reading it as "Israel." Which has led to some headlines that are just two letters away from an anti-Zionist wet dream:
"New York area expected to escape brunt of Israel" (New York Times)
"Washington shutting down in advance of Israel" (Reuters)
"Region braces for whatever Israel may bring" (Philadelphia Daily News)
"Israel shuts down US government" (News.au, Australia)
"Region warned to get prepared for Israel's arrival" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)
"Bracing for Israel's blow" (Washington Times)
