DAISY CHAIN: According to a published report, Britney Spears is eyeing as her next film project the role of Daisy Duke in a movie version of the classic TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard." Ashton Kutcher and Paul Walker have been mentioned as candidates to play Luke and Bo Duke in the still un-greenlighted film.
'Dukes' was always one of my favorite shows, and I'll approve of this project (and Spears' casting) under two conditions- that Britney wears Catherine Bach's original Daisy Duke wardrobe, and that she agrees not to record a new version of the classic, Waylon Jennings theme song.
Meanwhile, we can have lots of fun with the rest of the cast- Danny DeVito seems born to play Boss Hogg, with Kevin Spacey (or maybe Tim Robbins) stepping into the Roscoe P. Coltrane role. And may I suggest Ben Stiller for the role of cop/put-upon suitor Enos?
One concern though- a pretty major part of the original show was Them Duke Boys' car, the General Lee, which happened to be named for a Southern Civil War general and decorated with the Confederate flag. It's not too likely such a thing could survive the translation into a 2003 movie, yet how can you make a 'Dukes' movie without the General Lee? Would anyone in the South see it?
