HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR:

HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: The NBA All-Star Game was last night, and the West beat the East in double overtime. Kevin Garnett became, I believe, the first Minnesota athlete to win an All-Star MVP award in any sport, but the big story of the evening was that it was the final All-Star Game of Michael Jordan's career. (Unfortunately, the only All-Star Game I ever attended was in 1994, the year MJ was in the middle of his first retirement.)
Despite MJ's shot that almost won the game at the end of the first overtime, more attention since has been focused on the pre-game, halftime, and post-game events. I liked that the pre-game introductions were juxtaposed with a live performance of "Celebration" by Jersey City's own Kool and the Gang, but if the NBA was intent on using a '70s pop act for the final All-Star introduction of Michael Jordan, why not the Alan Parsons Project? Not only did APP provide the music long used for the Jordan-era Bulls' pregame intros, but I've got a feeling they were available.
As for Mariah Carey, could you believe what she was wearing? You've gotta think such a spectacle will make his wife file for divorce all over again. Though I agree with Sports Guy when he says that

By the way, and I think I speak for every American male here: Heavier, curvier, bustier and crazier Mariah Carey is infinitely more attractive than Skinny Mariah Carey. I will not argue about this. I just picture Mariah spending her afternoons walking topless around her Manhattan condo as she screams at assistants, "Where are my pills? Where the (expletive) are my pills?"

I'm already looking forward to LeBron James' final NBA All-Star Game, in 2020, at which the retiring LeBron is serenaded by an older, fatter, and trashier Christina Aguilera.
