OSCAR THE GROUCH: Academy Awards

OSCAR THE GROUCH: Academy Awards nominations will be announced tomorrow morning; and here are my predictions: Best Picture nominees will be "Chicago," "The Hours," "Gangs of New York," "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," and "Far From Heaven." Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep will get two acting nominations apiece, while the year's best film ("Road to Perdition") will be shut out, save for a Best Cinematography nod for the late Conrad L. Hall. And Peter O'Toole, who declined the Academy's offer of the honorary Oscar (and referred to said Oscar as a "little bugger" in the process) will be coaxed to appear at the ceremony. Which is more than I can say for likely Best Director nominee/fugitive child molester Roman Polanski. As for the winners, another split verdict: "Chicago" for Best Picture; lifelong Oscar snubbee Martin Scorsese for Best Director.
