PINK TRIANGLE ON HER SLEAVE:

PINK TRIANGLE ON HER SLEAVE: Imagine for a moment an alternate universe in which there are, say, two of Anna Kournikova. Now imagine that Anna1 and Anna2 are (heh, heh) lesbian lovers. Not exactly a brand-new thought for some of you, I'm sure. Okay, now imagine that the Kournikovas are not only lovers, but also partners in an Ace-of-Base-like pop group- except their songs are all about lesbian love! And in their videos, and their stage shows, they interrupt the lyrical stanzas by making out with other! Oh, and one more thing: they're both teenagers!
Okay, time to wake up- such a thing would never happen, at least not in our lifetimes- MTV wouldn't ever allow it, would they?
Oops, they already have. T.A.T.U., a duo consisting of nubile, Sapphic Russians Julia Volkova and Lena Katina, this week became the first Russian group ever to top the UK's pop singles chart, and their video for the song "All The Things She Said" (which you've probably heard even if you don't realize it) recently debuted on MTV. The video features the girls, among other things, making out with one another; Ivan Shapovalov, the group's casanova, has admitted that he came up with the idea for T.A.T.U. after visiting multiple porn sites- but really, that should go without saying.
Man, and I thought that whole "OperaBabes" thing was absurd and outrageous- has there ever been anything in pop culture more over-the-top than T.A.T.U.? I always thought I could live a thousand years without hearing the words "teenage," "lesbian," "Russian," and "pop duo" in the same sentence.
