Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Blues

The last few weeks of hype aimed at making the Olsen Twins into legitimate movie stars? Uh, I foresee a problem. Mary Kate and Ashley’s first major film as near-adults, “New York Minute,” crashed and burned at the box office, bringing in only $6.2 million in its opening weekend, about $50 million less than #1 “Van Helsing.”

Much will be written about this, most of it probably about another failed media attempt to “create” new stars. I didn’t see the movie, of course, but it sounded to me like it was an attempt to market equally to both the Olsens’ core fanbase of pre-teen girls, and to their other, skeevier base of middle-aged men- and surprise, it didn’t reach either.

Here’s Defamer:

That the Big Olsen Twins Movie didn't break $10 million is just more proof that tough statutory perv laws do work. Also, we're not quite sure which one of the set is going to be the Corey Feldman and which the Corey Haim, but the process of figuring it out is sure to be magnificent.

And besides, this whole “Olsens countdown” nonsense notwithstanding, I don’t see what their appeal is- they’re certainly not attractive females by any standard of the term, and on top of that they starred together on “Full House,” which may be the worst sitcom in the history of television. So forgive me for not wanting to jump on the Olsen bandwagon.

Now, Lindsay Lohan, on the other hand…

C'mon, you don't think the Olsen girls are hot?

Don't worry that you've failed to join the cult of Olsen. I saw a VH1 special they narrated and they were so wooden I couldn't believe that anyone would hire them to act in anything. And then I realized they were hiring themselves to act in stuff, so it didn't matter. One of them is all skin and bones due to a reported battle with an eating disorder (I think it's Ashley) and they are the most overrated property in America. I'd be happy if I never saw either of them on my television again.

It is acutually Mary-Kate who is rumoured to be battling with an eating disorder. The olsen twins, I agree are overrated but their going though a difficult time in their lives and people should consider that before they begin crisizing them.

i think Both the girls are beautiful and that everyone should stop critisizing them. if Mary-Kate does have an eating disorder then people should try to help her and stop spreading all these rumours.
after all, even with all the money they are normal teenagers and they go through the same things as we all do.

Mary-kate really need to gain weight i mean come on! What ever happend to that cute little face she had on **Full House** I really thought that the Mary-kate would grow up a good! I guess i was wrong! Ashley I think is doing *ok* but i don't know. Well WHAT IS UP ABOUT MARY-KATE CUTTING HER SELF that is just STUPID!! Oh well......... it is not my life so i should stay out of it~

The article and photo of Mary-Kate having a cut on her wrist was admitted to be false. It was created with the help of todays technology being used for no good. Now, granted, I am certainly not a fan of the Olsen twins acting, I think I can act better, but I do feel sympathetic for them because they were thrown into acting as babies, and growing up, they've had no say in their careers, and making cheesy kids movies are all they knew how to do. They had to pretend to be normal teenagers while at the same time dealing with a very high level of fame. I think finally they are showing us that they are normal teens with normal teen angst, with Mary-Kate's anorexia proving this the most. Before saying that Mary-Kate is no good, and that her eating disorder is stupid, do a little bit of research on it. It affects millions of people, and is a horrible illness that is very difficult to get rid of. Also, although Mary-Kate does not cut herself, I still do not think that anyone should jump to the conclusion that self-injury is stupid. It is the only thing that helps many people to feel better, and they should not be criticized. There are probably more self-injurers in the world than anorexics. It is very important to keep an open mind, because so many things are not always as they seem. These poor girls really are just like us, though I know many people criticize them simply because they have fame and money, and the common belief is that rich and famous people are snobby, and any article I have read from a reputable source, has always commented on how sweet and genuine the girls are, but having never met them, I cannot make any judgements of their character, however, most of the people spreading the rumors and posting criticism, have no place to judge their character either.

You guys, need to be understanding just because they are famous they are not perfect. I myself did go through anorexia for a year and you should criticize it if you dont understand. Just like everyone else they go through pressure even more than we do because everyone is waiting for them to stumble.

While I do believe that anorexia is something that is a disorder that can be stopped if you really want to, don't be so hard. No matter what Mary-Kate has, money and fame, when it comes down to it, she is just a teenager, even if she is in college she still has a lot of growing up to do. Anorexia and bulimia is something that affects many girls. When I was younger, like 9 or 10, she was my role model because she was famous and pretty and in movies. Now that I am older (even if I am only 16), I realize that she is not a good idea for a role model, because she isn't much older than me. I admire her, because it takes a lot to admit of courage to admit you have a problem. I used to have a problem with self-injury and it took me a long time to actully admit what I was doing was not good for me. I don't feel all that sorry for her, but I do feel bad because people are always gossping and spreading lies. It's a lot like high school, and most of these 'reporters' that say things about our young stars are just jealous ,hypocritical, immature little brats that say that Mary-Kate and Lindsey Lohan and others need to stop being so skinny, but then have pictures of Britney Spears on the cover saying she is gaing a few pounds. My god, I do think that most of these girls are too skinny but maybe if the meida would stop being so awful, it might be a little easier for them. But when it comes down to it is a personal choice. AHHH. I'm going in circles.

I think Mary-Kate is a wonderful rolemodel. She is my inspiration to stay skinny. She has been sich a great rolemodel for me growing up. Not to mention she is adorable! People don't like her just because she is skinny. Those people are just jealous that they don't have the self-control to be that glamorous. Dream on or do something about it!
