Quote of the Day

"You say the Midwest: Well, what is Detroit? Black, ghettoized Detroit? That's the Midwest. The south side of Chicago is the Midwest. North Omaha is the Midwest. To say it's all noble white people is such bullshit. I think anything that communicates a monolithic point of view about anything is wrong, certainly about a region."
- Alexander Payne, director of the new film "Sideways" (as well as "Election" and "About Schmidt"), putting the lie to all this "Bush won 'cause all the stupid yokels in Jesusland voted for him" nonsense. Posted by Stephen Silver at November 15, 2004 12:49 AM

Word.

I hadn't heard of Sideways, but I'll definitely see it. Election and About Schmidt were incredible movies. (About Schmidt, in particular, hit very close to home.)

What's his point? Michigan and Illinois went blue.
