Tierney of the Majority

The New York Times announced today that John Tierney will become their newest op-ed columnist, replacing the recently retired William Safire.

This is a good choice. More a libertarian than a conservative, though less of either than Safire, Tierney authored one of my favorite magazine pieces of all time, the 1996 NYT Magazine cover story “Recycling is Garbage.” (I haven't recycled since) Can’t wait to see what he comes up with as a columnist.

I also think Tierney is a good choice and thanks for the link to the recycling piece. I hadn't read that one before and it brought back some memories. I bought printed materials through much of the '90s and in fairly large volumes. Geez, the corporate meetings we used to have about the marketing requirements of using recycled paper versus the cost and really poor performance(at least at that time) of recycled papers. For the most part they were not rational discussions.
