Not Even Released Yet, And It’s Already Overrated

Hearing all week that it’s an instant classic, and having heard from more than one person that it’s “one of the best movies, ever,” I went to a screening tonight of “Cinderella Man.” And you thought “Million Dollar Baby” was an overrated, Oscar-bait boxing film…

I like Ron Howard, but this was him at his worst- too schmaltzy, no subtlety to speak of, and the fight scenes weren’t that great either. But I did like the climactic fight, and the Max Baer character- call him the Jewish Clubber Lang. My review will be up later today.

And last but not least, there’s an actor in it named Ron Canada. Not to be confused with Ron Mexico.

Bodes well for Da Vinci Code. {groan}

I dislike Howard and Crowe. I'm not going to see this movie [Cinderella Man]. (I was on the floor howling when A Beautiful Mind won all those awards.)

So when's the Star Wars review coming?

I would agree on with C on Howard, but not on Crowe. I think the only reason to see a Ron Howard movie is that he gets good actors. A couple years ago, I watched Oceans 11 and A Beautiful Mind back to back and the contrast was incredible. Soderbergs scenes flowed into each other with interesting wipes and cuts, while Howard always seems to fade to black between scenes.

The Sports Guy seems to agree with me, loving Crowe in this movie and panning Howards direction.

Ya, it definetely smells of Oscar pandering. Ron Howard doesn't do it for me either. But i love Crowe. I think i will wait for the DVD bedore i watch it. I dislike how Howard feeds the audience emotions. Here you're supposed to be sad, here you're supposed to idignant. Irritates the crap out of me.
