Posted by: Downtown Lad at July 19, 2005 09:13 PMNot really arguing the point, Steve, but the short explanation for why the country's politics are increasingly polarized isn't that the population is increasingly polarized, because it really isn't. It's that computerized use of the census data has made gerrymandering easier, and that produces districts that elect politicians who are both more extreme and less accountable.
