Philly Strikes Back

My fellow Philadelphians are defending the honor of their fair city following that stupid NYT piece last Sunday that called Philly “the new Brooklyn." First, they're disputing that such cheap housing is actually available in the Rittenhouse Square area, as stipulated by the Times. Then, we've got a long letter from a longtime Philly resident, taking apart the piece:

First, the story will be imbued with an air of exoticism, curiously
introducing New Yorkers to this strange place called "Philadelphia."
It's only 90 miles south, but when you're in the Center of the Universe,
it might as well be Brigadoon...

But this piece of...really goes the ultimate distance in its zeal to
sneer: "Philadelphians occasionally refer to their city - somewhat
deprecatingly - as the `sixth borough' of New York..."

Never once has any Philadelphian uttered such a piece of b.s., nor would
one.

All that, and the Phillies are all alone in the wild card lead.

Trust me - if my uncle would have hooked me up I could have had a pad on the Square for "only" $1000 rather than $1500. But he didn't. But that's neither here nor there. The fact is that prices on the Square are comparable to those in Manhattan - not for a similar social status type of address, mind you - but then again, Philly realtors generously define "Rittenhouse Square" to stretch out almost to the Grad Hospital area. If you know Rittenhouse Square at all ... the Grad Hospital area is the diametric opposite of Rittenhouse Sq.

And yeah, WILD CARD BABY!!

and finally ... mazel tov on the de-spammer.
