Ain't No Sunshine

All I'd been hearing for over a month was that "Little Miss Sunshine" was one of the year's best movies, so we saw it last week after arriving a couple hours early in Cincinnati. And... what a disappointment.

I liked the first half or so, it had some legitimately funny moments, and I liked Alan Arkin as the randy grandfather. But I failed to see what was so brilliant or groundbreaking about the film. It was just another movie with a bunch of misfits thrown together, with uncomfortable weirdness substituting for profundity. Does anyone have an explanation for why this was a good movie? If so, I'd love to hear it.

It wasn't groundbreaking and it wasn't one of the best films of the year. It was just a good film because it was funny in that it built up alot for the ending adn succeeded. I was in a movie theater in VA and people were really laughing by the end. Also it was well made and it wasn't 2 hours long. I think that is why people liked it too. Too many movies are just too long for the sake of it. While I agree that maybe there are too many "dysfunctional family" films out there, this one did pretty good.

Agreed with anon. I tend to dislike the disfuntional family films. But this one was well acted, was genuinely funny, and had a great surprise in the end. Yes some things were cliche but it was still a very enjoyable movie.
