Commissioner Andy?

Interesting little note in Peter Gammons' column yesterday:

"Bud Selig made baseball a business, and as he watches a series that assures a seventh champion in seven years -- something the NFL, NBA and NHL have never done -- he can rest assured that the business he will eventually turn over to Andy MacPhail will be judged by its financial record, not steroids tests."
Andy MacPhail's going to be commissioner? Really? Where'd that come from? I love Andy for putting together the '87 Twins, but shouldn't his tenure with the Cubs sort of imply that he's not commish material?

You are talking about a guy who will replace Selig. Commish material went out the window with Giamatti.

BTW - from a purely business standpoint, the cubs are great. Sell out every game, and because demand is so high to go to the beer garden between Sheffield and Clark, instead of honestly raising the "face" value of your tickets, sell the overwhelming majority of them to ticket brokers and huge margins beyond face.

Also, continue to make a profit while putting a lousy product on the field and silencing any dissent (Steve Stone).

Sounds like Selig era commish material to me.
