Film Critic Quote of the Day

"The so-indie-it-hurts "Little Miss Sunshine," hits the road in search of America only to find a country that sucks out loud. Let's run it down: here, being young sucks, being old sucks, dying sucks, health-care bureaucracy sucks, beauty pageants suck, being middle-class sucks, being homosexual sucks more than you could possibly imagine, dysfunctional families suck, of course our obsession with bodily aesthetics sucks because true beauty is more than skin deep."
-The Reverse Shot folks, in their year-end "11 Offenses" list. I still don't get why everyone loved that movie so much. Posted by Stephen Silver at January 8, 2007 02:35 AM

On United 93, Reverse Shot argues:

"...obvious that both Greengrass's work and our current government administration operate on the same shell-game logic."

Um, these people must have no idea who Paul Greengrass is if they're comparing him or his work to the Bush administration. Especially since they're going to insist the film *should have* asked questions like "why?" and "what next?" Fine, Mr. Critic. If that's the movie you want to see, then why don't one of you, for once, get up off your asses and MAKE IT instead of bitching about how nobody makes movies exactly the way you like them? It's one thing to criticize films on technicalities like weak plots, bad directing, writing or performing or other inconsistencies, but to say "they didn't tell the story the way *I* wanted to hear it" is just plain arrogant
