Well, At Least He'll Be Better At That Than Radio

News Item: Al Franken to run for Senate in Minnesota

My feeling on it is that Minnesota would be better served by someone who has actually, you know, been in state politics for awhile. Also, I don't love that Franken has as much as said that he's running primarily to get revenge on Norm Coleman for the Wellstone memorial fiasco. My prediction? He loses the primary to someone with more electoral experience.

Don't underestimate the fetish Minnesotans have for national celebrities who want anything to do with the state. They elected Jesse Ventura for chrissake.

I remember as a kid, the local media would always try to find some Minnesota connection to a national celebrity, clearly because that is what the public wants.

The local media do the same thing in every state; that's what local media do. When I was a reporter in Brookline, MA, even stories on the Iraq war needed to be related to the town somehow.

Sid Hartman insisted on his morning WCCO appearance that Minnesota is practically playing in the superbowl this year.

He get's funnier every year.

Jeremy, as someone who grew up in Brookline (BHS class of '94), I can totally see that. Who'd you write for?
