Weinkauf Award Nominee (For Excessive Shoehorning of Bush Symbolism Into Film Criticism)

"War makes you wonder what exactly defines murder and who is enabled to commit it... Where do these current killers come from? It's suggestive that both There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men were shot in mid-Texas Bush country (although the former is set in California). It's even more provocative that none of these killers show the slightest remorse—just plumb evil, I guess.
-J. Hoberman, in the introduction to the Village Voice critics poll.

I just saw "There Will Be Blood," and it's good, but certainly not "Best Movie of the Year" good. But I don't get the people who don't like the ending- I thought it was the strongest segment of the movie, by far.
