Awesome news out of Afghanistan:
David Rohde, a New York Times reporter who was kidnapped by the Taliban, escaped Friday night and made his way to freedom after more than seven months of captivity in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan... Mr. Rohde, along with a local reporter, Tahir Ludin, and their driver, Asadullah Mangal, was abducted outside Kabul, Afghanistan, on Nov. 10 while he was researching a book.This is great news, but... how come we didn't know he was kidnapped in the first place? The Daniel Pearl thing, the whole world had its eyes on it, and the same thing with Jill Carroll.
The Times reported that "the kidnapping has been kept quiet by The Times and other media" for security reasons, but there have been various reports in the time since. At any rate, glad he's safe, and I'm sure he'll have some story to tell.
