SO LONG, SRIDHAR: According to Gawker, which despite being a gossip site seems to get things right most if not all of the time, New York Observer media columnist Sridhar Pappu is soon leaving that paper in order to work for "a sports publication" which is also "a swimsuit-laden glossy mag."
Sounds to me like Sports Illustrated- and if it's true, it's great news- Pappu is one of the better newspaper writers in New York, and SI has throughout its history run regular work by some of the best writers on Earth, from David Halberstam to Don DeLillo to George Plimpton to Gary Smith- as seen in this new collection. It's long been a place for great writing, contrary to the snide observation by some that SI is the "in-flight magazine" of Bush's Air Force One.
