When Good Wrestlers Go Bad

Scott Keith has a nifty list of the best explanations pro wrestlers have given over the years for "heel turns," i.e. when they switch from being good guys to bad. I don't think there's a better one than "Macho Man" Randy Savage turning on Hulk Hogan because he had "lust in his heart" for Miss Elizabeth.

Ever known anyone who had a real-life heel turn? I know I have.

My favorite was the Rock's first one. After months of being a rah-rah babyface who the fans couldn't have despised more (and justifiably so - at the time, he sucked) he comes back, punks out Ahmed Johnson, I think, and joins Farooq, cutting a great promo where he actually mentions all the chants and signs that fans came up with during his first run.

It was surprising, because the WWE didn't used to acknowledge when the fans were reacting like they should.

The rest, as they say, is history.
